Why Radon Matters in Western NC
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. Because of the geology here in the High Country, many homes throughout Boone and western North Carolina can experience elevated radon levels.
Homes with crawlspaces, basements, block foundations, exposed rock, or private wells may be more susceptible to radon entry. Since radon is colorless and odorless, testing is the only way to know if elevated levels are present.
The North Carolina Radon Program recommends every home in North Carolina be tested.
